Rufus van Baardwijk is a composer, producer and engineer, though he would introduce himself as a musician first. He came up playing in bands and writing songs, then followed the music into the studio and stayed. He has scored films shown at festivals worldwide, produced albums and EPs, and written music for Dutch and international brands and for some of the Netherlands' most listened-to podcasts. He founded Hidden Gem in 2022 to give other artists the room he always wished he had.

The live room of Studio Hidden Gem in Amsterdam, with plants, instruments and a long table

ABOUT HIDDEN GEM

Hidden Gem started in 2022 with a simple idea: build the kind of room we always wanted to work in, then open it to everyone else. We believe people play differently when they feel at home, so we built the studio like a big living room, with wood, plants, couches and natural light, tucked away in an industrial corner of Amsterdam Westpoort.

Today it is a recording, mixing and mastering studio in Amsterdam that also runs podcasts, rentals and live sessions. Bands track in the live room, podcasters film complete episodes, producers book The 24/7 Studio at any hour, and on some evenings the room turns into a stage for intimate showcases. Artists, filmmakers and brands all come through the same door.

Small enough to feel like a living room, serious enough for records that get released.
